We are thrilled to be helping teach the Bible to your child! We would like to share some information about our program and explain some guidelines.

What is the Union Hill Kids Ministry?

Union Hill Kids Ministry is a ministry devoted to our children from birth through the sixth grade. We provide Bible classes on Sunday mornings (9:30 am) and Wednesday evenings (7:00 pm). We are staffed entirely by volunteers. Most of our workers are parents of our children although several who just love kids work with us!

What will my child do in class?
Bible lessons are taught in each class. Our nursery class (birth to 18 months), 18 month to two year old class, and three and four year old class teach how God made everything and He loves and takes care of us. Kids from five years old up to sixth grade learn all of the major stories of the Bible. We spend fourteen months in the Old Testament learning about characters such as Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Moses. Then we focus the next ten months studying the New Testament accounts of Jesus and His parables and miracles.

What should my child bring to class?

Bible (Don’t worry if you don’t have one, we will have extras!)
If applicable, your child’s diaper bag with your child’s name clearly marked on it.
Pacifier-please provide a way to clip it to your child.
Bottles are okay in the younger class, but please have them labeled too.
Security objects (i.e. blanket) if they help relieve anxiety; however, do not bring in personal toys to help keep any special toy from being lost.

Are there specific lessons available for my child during the worship assembly?

During the worship hour, your child (birth-two years old) may stay in the nursery for playtime, learning valuable social skills. We talk about God with your child as we play, but no formal lesson is taught.

A changing table is available..

How will I know if my child needs me?

During our Bible class we ask that you sign-in letting us know what class you will be attending and we will come and get you if needed.

Should I stay with my child during class?
Parents are invited to observe our classes, just remember some children do not handle their parents presence in the room as well as others. Often fussy babies/toddlers are distracted and calmed down soon after the parents leave the room. We promise to come get you if this does not occur. We, just like you, want your child’s experience with Bible class to be a good one.

How will I know what my child is learning in class?
We believe that you as a parent are your child’s best and most important teacher. At Union Hill we want to help you develop your child’s spiritual heart and mind by providing you with take-home crafts or worksheets describing the Bible lesson. We hope this information helps you reinforce these valuable Bible stories. As parents, you know how quickly children grow and change. We want to be a part of your child’s spiritual growth and look forward to loving and nurturing your children. It is never too early to introduce your child to God. Please don’t deny your child this blessing and bring them to Bible class each week.

How will my child be encouraged to build a relationship with God?
We come to know God through His word, the Bible. God’s word teaches us how to live happy lives that are pleasing to Him. Because the Bible is so important we want to help our children "hide it in their hearts" by memorizing specific verses. For a three week period the children will focus on learning a memory verse and some Bible facts (such as knowing the books of the Bible). Every quarter the children will be encouraged to recite their memory work (as a group) for the congregation.

How will my child learn about service for others?
In addition to studying Bible characters who displayed a servant-like heart we also want to encourage the children to be actively involved in serving. Every three months on Wednesday night instead of having classes we will plan a service project such as making Valentines for shut-ins, baking cookies for people in the hospital, or singing at the nursing home. Watch for more details in the bulletin.

Wednesday Nights at Union Hill
Wednesday nights will be exciting at Union Hill! Our program is designed to keep the children's interest through lots of fun singing, interesting Bible stories told with puppets and energetic storytellers, a time of memory work and creative, educational crafts.
